The sanctuary is open from October 16 to June 15. The summer months are scorching hot, with the temp hitting 43 degree Celsius. the temperature hitting 43 degree Celsius. The best time to visit is definitely late November to early March when the temperature can drop to a cool 10 degree Celsius.

The Gir National Park has a tropical monsoon climate. The normal monsoon starts from Mid - June and lasts till September. Annual rainfall in The Gir National Park is between 600mm and 1000mm but due to irregular monsoon and uneven distribution of rainfall across the peninsula drought years are common. The park and sanctuary remains open all year but the cool and dry weather between late November and Early march is the recommended visiting period.
